I will disagree with your last statement. If (I hate that word when talking about stock) I would have bought the same dollar amount of stock as I did fertilizer this year the stock would have increased enough to pay for the fertilizer. Just another way to look at the situation. I understand this will not happen with everything but just a unique situation that is worth looking at.

Pretty simple they have a product that is worth more now.

Are they selling more product? Probably not, but making more money, thus the stock goes up.

And yes I do invest in Oil company stock. I am familar with the industry and feel comfortable owning somthing I know about.
