Subject: RE: "Long run" and the life of an operation

Murfreesboro, Tennessee
This is something I face everyday. We are in a growing community. The family farm we are farming has been in my family for 6 generations is now in the city limits and there is sewer right to its border. I want to build grain bins, but why? Land across the road brought $30k per acre 2 years ago, and we are holding out for $50k (and will probably get it within the next 3-5 years). Matter of fact, I am scared to price it because I think someone will buy it.

It really puts us in a tough position when trying to budget. Do you go ahead and upgrade planters because you think you may have the ground for another couple of years, or do you just get by again and turn a few wrenches and wait to sale out (and hopefully start again elsewhere)? Every decision we make takes this into condsideration.
