Subject: RE: "Long run" and the life of an operation

Southwest Missouri
I look at the long term, most of the time. The only time we did not was when a 12 year lease ran out on some pasture land. We were offered the chance to buy it. We thought it was too expensive. (I still do). After the winter ice storm, we only cleaned up what we needed in order to work the cows. I did not run the brush hog. I could not see the reason to burn time and fuel keeping a place looking nice when I knew the next owner was going to turn it in to farmettes.

It was the "smart" thing to do, but boy I sure hated seeing it. Makes me glad we own the land we run now.

I am 53 and have no children. What will my attitude be 20 years from now? I do not know. I strongly suspect I will be putting in fences and buildings that will last longer than me. Or, until the bulldozer turns our place into "developments" after my death.
