I appreciate that, Marty. There is a saying that we learn more from our mistakes than our successes. That is certainly true with cattle.

As far as feeding heifers or cows gluten or grain, I guess it is ok if your hay is not high enough protein or TDN.

However the April-calving cows and heifers in this picture I posted recently have had no grain or anything but grass and hay for months. They did share one bucket of sweet feed to get them into the corral on Oct 24th for weaning but nothing more since and for some time before.

Here is a picture of their current condition. I am very wary of over feeding pregnant cattle due to my above experience. Thank you for the kind words.
