Subject: RE: feeding bred cows

NC Indiana
We've fed 5# of corn/ddg's or soy hulls (depending on price) every other day w/ our free choice hay/balage in the winter in the past. Had 1 big calf last yr we lost. She had the calf and we found it later, so was it to big from feed, died at birth, our fault for not finding her in time, I don't know. Had 24 other cows fed the same way get along just fine, heifer included. Looking at feeding some corn silage this yr since I figure we have way to much for the hd we're running. Friend says he feeds 1 loader bucket corn silage to 10 hd every few days w/ FC hay.
