The law IS outdated - look at when it was written. Iowa used to be made up of a family on every 40 or 80, a few hogs, a couple milk cows, etc. Look at the really old fences and they are woven wire. I own cattle and to me it is common sense and common courtesy to contain them. I think a good compromise would be to rewrite the law so that it addresses neighbors who both have stock against the property border or just go to a straight fence-in policy. Just my opinion.
