Kingston,Mi
Michigan is a mandatory RFID tag state, no tag, no movement, no sale. Cattle coming in get one somewhere before they are unloaded.

Got the push to tags because of idiot deer hunters and feeding deer. Nose to nose contact with TB in deer herds caused a lot of herds to be depopulated in the hunt club area (northern Lower Michigan)and they needed a reliable way to track all livestock. My cattle have the buttons placed on them when they leave the origninal farm as calves and they are still on them when they get to the slaughter plant. Just the buttons, not the large tags.

Michigan never had brand registry that I am aware of because we never were open range, so a brand in Michigan is an interesting scar and nothing more.

Tattoes and now RFID tags are identification "here".

Should have depopulated some deer hunting clubs that are bullheaded about feeding deer to the detriment of agriculture.
