I find it interesting the industry with the one of the oldest tarrif and quota systems in the United States with multitudes of growers reading this forum, seem to be a bit quiet.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, not a sugar producer, but my half of the county’s population would be decimated without the sugar industry.
I would think without the tarrif/quota system in place for sugar, our local economy would collapse. But I could be wrong.
I know my belly could use a little bit tightening of the quota of sugar allowed in.
So are all tarrifs really a bad thing?
I do think unbalanced trade is a poor way to go about the future, but as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Happy Saturday to ya.
Our county survived the closure of the sugar beet plant, twice. Yours will survive it once.
