| theres real american workers with families behind the trade deficits and subsequent job loss. a tariff can (should) be used to cover the living wage job loss. as it is now, gainful employment is replaced with 2 part-time service based jobs with no health insurance or other benefits. those locked in the substandard jobs need help from the government.. food stamps, government healthcare, earned income tax benefits, ect
as it is now and has been, those social costs have been shifted to the us taxpayer. meanwhile companies maker record profits overseas with slave labor in many cases, no environmental or worker safety regulations. our biggest export has been our industrial pollution to countries with no standards. that $34 trillion national debt comes from funding the social safety net and half the us workforce doesnt make enough to owe federal income taxes.
that cheap foreign junk does get paid for at higher than what is on the price tag at walmart by the taxpayers.
