The reality is that there is no such thing as free trade. Different countries use varying tariff levels, but the number never goes to totally free. Commodities tend to be the first target when tariffs are used for political retaliation. Having said all that, free trade can cause a lot of economic costs and eventually political unrest on both sides. Now that we are moving to a global economy free trade should and will be based more on economic than political decisions.
