What is on the other side of the fence? Timber with no livestock?
If the answer is yes, then I would run 2 or 3 barb wires through and be done with it. Leave old fence on ground and put barb wire over the top of it. Nothing for them to really want on the other side so no pressure. Especially if it's just 3 or 4 days at a time.
