Subject: RE: Bedding Cows During Winter?

MB, Canada
We've got about a four or five day stretch here of temps bordering on -40 with the windchill. I don't hold back on straw during these times. I'm sure it saves on feed, but I definitely know those cows are less stressed when they have a nice bed, and this is the sort of extreme weather when stressed-out cows will start dropping calves. I also rarely buy synthetic fertilizer, so having plenty of bed pack manure to spread around suits me just fine.
