Ontario | I always bed mine deep with straw but i have a barn they can go into, i don't bed outside. IMO it just holds water and is unnecessary expense (for my operation), i just scrape the slop off when it gets bad and mix it with my straw pack manure. I never worry too much about the temperature of them they're pretty good at staying warm on their own as long as they can get out of the wind, i would base your decision on how clean you want to see them. I would agree that if you start you gotta keep up with it because inevitably the pack/bedded area will be warmer than laying on snow or grass so they're gonna lay there whether its dry or slop. I'm from Southern Ontario so we get pretty similar weather and conditions that you get across the lake. | |
