Subject: RE: 60" rows and ear corn

Linneus Mo.
I was going to try something like this before the tornado came through and changed many of my plans this year. But I was going to stay on 30" rows just to lower my population to 13000 final. I was planning on using cowpeas and planting them by broadcasting before my final cultivation. Again this is in an organic environment. It was actually a fairly common practice from early in the 1900s through about 1950. Chemical weed control changed much of our interseeding practices.

I have done ear corn recently and I found that it needs to be around 20% moisture to keep really well. It comes off too early and we tend to get more humidity at storing time and it just doesn't keep well.

The reason for the forage peas is they are viney and tend to creep on the ground more. Like I said I didn't try it as too much of the farm got destroyed and I just didn't have time to get it all done.
