The most important thing to remember when checking corn in our short steep hills, is to have enough slack in the wire so the wire doesn't hold the planter out of the ground and/or break the wire when traveling through the bottom ground between the hilltops....at least that what I was told.

I haven't had a total of twelve hours of downtime in my 43 year planting career because of planter marker issues. I will always plant by the seat of my pants and there is one roll of check wire in the far back corner of a shed....just in case.
