Wisconsin | I agree, the big cribs in Quebec are impressive, but too specialized for experimentation. They handle nearly all their grain on "flat storage" in the UK, that is, they dump it on the floor inside a shed and pile it with a telehandler. If you don't have a telehandler, then a skid steer is the next best thing, set everything up to be handled with a skid steer, unless it's a dump box into a wide auger, so you don't have to help it at any point in the process.
The moisture issue depends on the crib and the location. A round one with no tunnel is not good. Tall and long in an exposed location will dry better. It's not about the moisture of the corn, it's about the moisture of the air that is in the middle of the crib, as long as that stays dry, then mold won't grow. | |
