| Engine heat should have nothing to do with it. Have you cleaned the condensor? Without good air flow through the condensor, you will build high pressure and even if the compressor stays running, it will not cool. The high rpm will only make the situation worse. Consider taking a pressure washer to the evaperator core and also inspect to see if you are getting good air flow through it.
You have spoke of a lot of repairs to the system in the last several years. Something to be aware of is the possibility of too much oil in the system. Some A/C techs like to add oil everytime they work on a system and too much when they do. Excess oli will be held in the dryer canister and can wreck havoc on a system causing a restriction.
I have worked on A/C systems for 20 years and they are a pretty simple system really. Compared to the other parts of a car, A/C has not really changed in the last 50 years. Still works on the same principals and the components have not really changed either.
I would invest in a cheap set of gauges and check the pressures.
