But warranty usually covers it, but I paid big $$$ to get that warranty. "As is" is "was as it left the seller" Unless he stated a warranty you're SOL. It is 40 plus years old. When I buy used equipment I take it home and work it 10-20 hours to find any problem it may have because time is of the essence for a claim. But it still is "As is". If there was a clutch problem it should have been noticeable during the test drive
Only help you can expect is if he a nice guy like me or John Hagan. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, just chalk it up to a lesson learned about buying used equipment, car or truck. I always believed that an item is for sale because something is wrong with it or the seller would have kept it.
