NW Washington | Combine design is going to depend a lot on the crops harvested and harvest conditions. Here in the US the big need is for corn shellers and rotary combines are great corn shellers and they are also easy on crops like beans. In Europe they harvest mostly cereal crops and often want to bale the straw, a situation that favors conventional cylinder/walker combines. They also often have to deal with damp harvest conditions. And as you mention size matters too. Most European countries have smaller fields and they also have to deal with a 3 meter width restriction for travel on public roads. | |
