Subject: Machinery, labour costs, and big farms...

Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!!
I have noticed on these threads, many guys trading off 3 to 5 year old equipment. I am not saying I'm right, but I farm with 25 year old stuff, (I am 31! lol), and my repair costs are from 0 to 3 dollars an acre per year. How are these guys doing it when mine is paid for, I grow great crops, and have no need to hire labour. Farming is tough enough without these extra costs.

I also see any guys like me on here and I just wonder if I'm way off base, or what? Are the bigger guys netting out better? Does it make their bottom line greater to pull their new seeders with new tractors? Do the extra acres they can farm cover this? I also read a lot on here about holes wearing through in grain tanks on combines, combine fires, and the like. My 25 year old combine has no holes in it at all. I guarantee it has done more acres. Where is farming headed at this rate? Is there a reward?

What are your thoughts? Small guys, large guys, and everyone in between, lend me your ears!!!!
