South Central Kansas | Who are the "plant protection people" exactly? The PVP law is in place and the owners of the varieties have the right to protect their varieties, whether it Be KSU, OSU, CSU, Agripro or Agseeco.
In some areas this year there will be no extra seed no matter what the price. For those who go to the extra effort, time and expense to certify protected varieties; they now have all those expenses and little or nothing to sell, at least in Central Kansas and Oklahoma. Those that do have some certifiable seed to clean, may have 20-30 maybe 40% cleanout. Now you tell me that with the extra expenses and the fact that most of the cleanout will be low grade feed at best.........if $10-12 per cleaned, tested, certified bushel is too much. I don't think so.
The two posters above gave good answers. Check out the law.
KCIA has nothing to do with the price of seed. | |
