Subject: What is the fine, or what is the law pertaining to selling seed wheat?

Panhandle of Texas

Actually, I do not even have any seed wheat, but I was still wondering...I bought a Kinze 1050 Grain Cart from a guy in Kansas about a month and a half ago.  When he delivered it, he told me that there was going to be a tremendous shortage of seed wheat in that part of the country.  Turns out, he was right!

I have seen some 'sneaky' ads in the HPJ, and I heard that the law(s) regarding seed wheat had changed a few years back.

From the growers standpoint, I can certainly see why they are barking...They spend oodles of money breeding up a new variety; then some guy comes in there, buys 50 acres worth of seed...and then the next year, he has enough seed wheat for himself, and half of his neighbors.

Sew(haha), what are the laws pertaining to the [illegal] sale of seed wheat? (I know there are a few varieties that these laws do not apply to.  'Scout', I know, is a variety that one can sell without fear of breaking the law) Know anyone that got nabbed?  How bad did they get it hung in 'em?
