1586,Do you work for Pioneer? When Pioneer/Syngenta formed the JV called GreenLeaf genetics the last true germplasm pool is headed for the open market thru partner companies and anyone else who will buy it. You see their is something call Monsanto/Cornstates kicking both Pioneer and Syngenta's a** in the seed market. Both companies especially Syngenta have huge research engines to pay for and in Syngentas case they have a huge crop protection business to protect as well. The other wild card is all companies report to their stockholders on Wall street and will do anything that makes sense to boost their stock price.

Now with Monsanto doing what they do in the market place thru their DK, Asgrow, ASI brands as well as Cornstates genetics both Dupont and Syngenta felt like they needed to do something to stay in the game both in the market and on Wallstreet. So they formed a JV to melt their best lines together to be able to compete in the market. They look at it just like Monsanto in the fact they don't care if it comes thru their own "Brands" or thru another bag with a partner that chooses to use their genetics and traits and capture profits there. None of those companies care anymore than the profit side so they can satisfy Wallstreet for the quarter or the yr.

I feel for you if you have bought in on the company line of bu**sh*t that says you will only have propriortory genetics. They will sell anything out of Greenleaf into the open market that is hot in the marketplace to gain share. They will prefer to do it thru their own brands but don't kid yourself if they can't gain back the share they will sell it thru others. Monsanto is ahead in the game and the other two "have" to do something to catch up. You can go to all the "rah rah" sessions you want but it will be that way.

My best advice to anyone after working in the large corporate world is this: find a rep (no matter what company) that you can trust to help you build a great cropping program for your farm. He is your best friend if he works for a large company (Pioneer, Syngenta, Monsanto or any one of several regional companies) then so be it. But find someone you can trust not someone who is not "brainwashed" by anyone to believe the company line. Everyone out here that is worth a sh*t can put together a solid cropping program that spreads risk very well.
