| As I understand it, Greenleaf will have Pioneer (not DuPont, they've never been in the corn breeding business that I'm aware of) germplasm, but in unique new genetics, or older genetics that have "run their course" in the market. Greenleaf is supposed to compete in the "low-end" market for those areas that won't pay more than $80/bag no matter how good it is. If it's older Pioneer genetics in that bag, I'd expect to see the pioneer number, on a Greenleaf bag.
I think the issue in this area is the LG/AgriGold/Great Lakes/etc hybrid that is marketed under three different companies with three different numbers. An unknowing farmer goes to three companies to spread his genetic risks, asks for their best hybrid, and goes home with the same genetics in three different bags. For argument's sake let's say GLS hits hard in his area, and he's hammered, no difference in the corn, no spreading of genetic risk. Not good. | |
