Subject: Feeding with Allison transmissions?

South Central Kansas, Harper County
We bought this 1992 Ford with an Oswalt 575 TMR mixer/feeder a month or so ago. This has an Allison MT653 transmission. Don't know a whole lot about the Allisons or the Oswalt box in general, so kind of feeling our way through the feeding process. Having a problem getting feed to evenly discharge properly. I know the books says to run the RPM minimum of 1650RPM for proper mixing and discharge. We put the Allison in L hole(as low as it will go), thinking that would let us creep along while maintaining minimum 1650 RPM. But, we are going way too fast for proper feeding and discharge. I can make this work if I ride the brake while going along the bunks. Is this proper operation? Seems to me, we should be able to just creep in low, and not need to use the brakes. If this is normal, I can use it this way, just seemed strange, but, like I said, I am not familiar with the operation of the Allisons. Any suggestions, would be appreciated.
thanks,
Jim
