SESD | wheat farmer, would you mind giving some #'s on your figuring.
Here are some of mine for figuring sake:
5 months on pasture @ 3.5ac/pair------$140
5 months on feed @ $1.50/day---------$225
Vaccinations/cutting/preg check-------$30
Bull @$3500 purchase $1000 sell and 25 cows/bull and keep for an average of 4yrs-----$25
These are just some rough numbers off the top of my head. This is figuring you get 2 months grazing on corn stalks and figures no equipment(feeders, fences, tractors), labor, supplements, or cattle payments. Also the feed cost may be different elsewhere. We are actually higher. So you got $420 off of those figures. 600lb calf at $1.10 is $660. Boy, when I look at those numbers, I should find another job.
