Make sure install good drainage for your basement so you don't have to fight water in the basement later. I think geo-thermal is the way to go for heating and cooling, but it cost a lot more up front. Spray foam insulation cost at least twice as much as the others.

What you want and what you can afford is always a problem. Also, building a house can be a test of your marriage.

Do your homework on what works and what does not, and beware of advise from over confident dummies who don't know what they are talking about or have something to sell.

Finally, remember where the sun goes up and down and arrange the rooms in your house so that this works to your advantage and does not become a problem.
