I was raised in a country Methodist church, which was a UMC church. However I doubt if 99% of the people knew what the upper level leadership promoted or condoned. When my future wife said she would really rather attend a Christian Church instead of a Methodist Church I started to do some looking, which led to my joining the Christian Church and eventually being part of the local church leadership.
