The first of it being a 'subjective call," meaning judgment of the ruling is divided amongst individual interpretation. The other part is the "off the ball" element or the away-from the play concept, which obviously denotes actions that carry a degree of separation from the ball in play. Your example has none of those elements like the play that unfolded last night. Therefore the "swallow the whistle" concept need not apply to your example put forth. Mav
If the illegal screen was "away from the play" and didn't matter, why set the illegal screen????
It was the correct call, at all stages of the game that is illegal and affects the outcome of the play. It was being done to get an open shot via the pick and roll. The girl that set the illegal screen was going to get the ball going to the rim.
