Subject: RE: filling a propane tank.

West Union, Illinois

IADAVE - My furnace guy Ok 'ed right by the building.
Furnace guy is wrong. So are most plumbers.  Ask them one simple question: What version of NFPA 58 has your state adopted?  Anything but the correct date means you should consider anything he says or does with propane outdoors to be suspect.

Oh and for Iowa it is NFPA 58, 2017 edition, as formally adopted by the Iowa Administrative Code 661-226(101).
Illinois is still working under the 2011 edition.

NFPA 58 says:
Under 125 gallons may be against a building but must be 10 feet from a source of ignition and 5 feet from any opening
125 gallons to 500 must be a minimum of 10 feet
501 to 2000 must be 25 feet
The grouchy old retired Fire Chief in SE Illinois says regardless of what the code says put it 50 ft from anything
