Wyoming | I've sporterized a 1903A3 to .35 Whelen. It works just fine. It is the American version of the Mauser 9.3x62. The .35 Whelen comes in just a bit behind the .338 WinMag in terms of power, but the Buffalo Bore/Barnes premium ammo is neck-and-neck with a .338. There were a number of 760's in '06 that were re-bored/rifled to .35, or .35 Rem's that were re-chambered to .35 Whelen. The 760C was made with a 18.5" barrel. In a 7600, .35 Whelen was/is one of the factory cartridges available, and the 7600 has a 18.5" barrel available. I think if you got a 760 or 7600 in .35 Whelen, you'd never have to look at another cartridge for nearly all North American game other than perhaps the big coastal Brownies in Alaska. It is more than enough for any whitetail you're going to meet. It is more than enough for elk, black bear, etc. | |
