I know this isn't what you asked, and its off subject but I would recommend a 270wsm. I have a model 70 featherweight and its a beast. Flat shooting out 300+ yards. I shoot 140 grain berger hybrid hunter bullets in mine. Longest shot was 457 yards last summer on deer. ( depradation permit). If I ever get out west on a elk hunt thats what I'm taking.
This gun needs be dual purpose, as I’d also want it be legal on Iowa Whitetails. Which is a .35 caliber minimum restriction. There’s a plethora of terrific elk cartridges, from 7mm REM Mag to the big .338’s, to choose from. None useful back home in Iowa though. Grand total of zero CPX3 class game in Iowa.

Sorry, didnt know about ya'll restrictions out there. I shot 7mm mag for years, was my main rifle until this winchester. I like it better, less recoil and in my opinion flatter shooting.
Mainly I use this to hunt with and still use my 30-30. Have had that since I was 16 ( model 94 winchester)
Good luck on your elk hunt, 1 day im gonna go
