A hydrostatic drive would be nice (for me a neccessity) for getting around trees and landscaping. It gets the perfict travel speed, to finish mowing timely. Easy to learn and use. I'd highly recommend one on your consideration. As far as used mowers, I know you are in a different area then I, but craigslist is a great shopping tool. Still good deals from forclosures homeowners on there - mowers. If nothing there, then a retired guy that rebuilds and fixes-up mowers. Then you can try before you buy . . .  Here I mow about every 4 days for 8 wks or so then in the heat of summer about once a week for the remaining year . . .
