There are lots of locations where you could light your water on fire before any gas wells were drilled. The Milk River Aquifer is a water supply like this.

And the stories out of the Rosebud area are only one side of the issue -that CBM and not horizontal. There are some pretty wacko people on one side of that issue. But with $4 gas coalbed methane isn't exactly a money maker so its not as much an issue right now. There is only one case that for sure was a water supply effected by CBM fracking (not horizonal drilling).

Now there is a certain radius from the well where energy companies must test water before and after they drill.
