I'm assuming you are being paid to do the custom work. Upkeep on your machinery is just part of the deal. There is insurance you can carry for that sort of thing, if you feel it's necessary. We just run our machinery with care and when stuff happens, we fix it. It's like the old saying in racing...."Stuff" happens when you go fast.
