SW MN and Gold Canyon AZ | I'm in Rons camp on the removal rates. I am involved with the EQUIP program for my manure applications. My manure rates are based on removal rates and soil tests. Appling manure on a rotation basis the rates come out pretty close.
The price of corn is a moving target, so should the application rates of fertilizer. As corn prices rise a higher amount of economical N can be justified. I beleive the same for P and K to a point. If you own land that soil should NEVER be allowed to fall below the MED category to maintain top yields . Rented land is a different situation.
With 5$ plus corn and 13$ soybeans I will stay towards the higher side of recomendations.
Yield is still king, higher yields lower your cost per bushel.
I banded fert for many years with the planter. Saved money at first, but could not keep up my soil tests.
2$ corn changes everything as does 5$ corn. | |
