I would not use ground ashpalt. There have been problems here with it contaminating ground water. I would put fabric under what ever you use, and if you are going to plow or blow snow, you need something with some fines in it that will freeze. I custom blow driveway's and the worst are 3/4 washed crushed rock, followed closely by washed pea gravel. A good 3/4 crushed gravel with the fines in it is about as good as any for a top, and a 2 inch crushed gravel makes a good base. It is probably as important to use enough of it more than what you use.
