Subject: RE: robotic milkers

Chilliwack BC
There's a number of them around here, as well as a quite a few that quit milking cows within a couple years of putting them in. I have a friend that had a couple of them and pulled them out and put a parlour in. He recently made me promise to never put robot milkers in. There was no time saved and the maintenance costs were very high. It got to the point that the whole family couldn't even go out for dinner together, someone had to stay home and wait for the robot to phone that it was broken. They were happy with the SCC and production they got with them though. A former neighbor farming in Saskatchewan put 4 in this spring and already pulled them out and had to reinstall the parlour. If you are seriously considering it, don't only talk to the people that are using them, talk to the people that quit using them as well.
