Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | We bought pigs from an operation in Canada that farrowed outdoors until the owner was killed in a plane crash late last summer. My dad and I breifly discussed the possibility of going back to a farrow to finish operation. That conversation was short.
We did some outdoor farrowing in the summers back from about '96 to '98. My older sister graduated from HS in '98, went to college in the fall, and the sows were all gone shortly after. I think someone already pointed out the importance of family labor in some hog operations...
