East-Central IA		When I was little, 15+ years ago, used to have the sows out on dirt, farrowed inside, and finished in the barn and later a "Cargill" style feed lot.

Worked for a hog farmer when I was 18-19, and he would raise some on a dirt lot when he ran out of lot space.
