You want to be careful with maple if you are using a wider plank. If you live in an area where you have drastic humidity changes. The wood will contract and expand causing gaps in the floor at the seams. To some it is not a big deal, to others it is deal off. I owned a flooring business for five years and saw people on both sides of the fence. I personally believe having someone custom install, sand, and finish is the nicest looking and most durable floor you can get. But it is also the most pricey. A prefinished will hold pretty well, but if you ever have to sand it for any reason, expect to pay quite a bit for the process. The five to seven layers of finish chew through even the toughest sand papers on the machines. I personally don't like the way prefinished flooring is cured(by a machine) I prefer the all natural way of curing. The floor "ages" better.
This is all my humble opinion. Best of luck to you!
