N E Nebr | This is a very interesting post. I am 49 yrs. old and was a hired hand when we went through the great thrill ride of the late 70's-early 80's. It did not affect me much but my parents struggled terribly. Everything that is said on here is true and yes it does feel like it could happen again. We had some mighty long winters and even longer hot and dry summers during that spell. IF you think you are bullet proof and by that i mean you can't fail, lookout cause the anvil NEVER falls on the roadrunner( the banks). In closing i guess the only thing that looks different is the farmers that are buying land are putting a big down payment down and that makes a lot of difference. In the 80's banks were loaning 100% of the purchase price and with the interest the way it went, it killed most operators. Just my .02. | |
