Two classmates and I didn't have parents that farmed, we all worked on different farms growing up.
Two of us have done pretty well considering where we started. The third one is still draining his dad's retirement funds keeping a cash flow negative rental farm treading water and thinks the whole world is against small farmers like him. I'm sure improperly fertilizing crops, selling his dairy herd three times since he's started and having a stove in the kitchen that never is used has nothing to do with it. Even 20+ years into it his business acumen is about the same you'd use at 1/64th scale on the basement floor. You want to help the guy but he can't get out of his own way. | |
