Subject: How can a young farmer afford ground?

My family has been farming for a couple generations, we skipped my mom’s generation though. I just bought my grandpas equipment after farming together for several years. We cash rent all of our ground, own none of it. We only farm about 500 acres and 300 is owned by one family. The mother passed away and now the ground is going to be sold. I know of the USDA programs for beginning farmers, but $600,000 towards 300 acres is just a drop in the bucket. Are there any other resources for a beginning farmer that could help me be more competitive with buying this land? Losing over half our acres in one sale would be a gut punch, we’re scratching and clawing trying to keep land together.

Details. My wife and I both work full time off the farm. We have farmed this 300 acres since the earlier 1980’s
