I’m a process operator for a chemical company  I’ve graduated to a more specialized role within operations.   My advice for younger guys is get a trade, be a welder, electrician, or fitter.   Do something that gives you a trade.  I make the same base rate as a craft BUT with a craft a person could retire early and moonlight part time on the side to make a little extra money in retirement.
