A couple things to add here. You’ve gotten some misinformation from a couple posters.

Kananaskis country is worth seeing. There are no toll booths on this to travel this hwy but you do need to purchase a pass either online or at a park centre if you want to stop and hike or see an attraction. There are guys driving around taking pictures of license plates to see if you bought the pass. The Spray Lakes trail is a really nice drive as well from Peter Lougheed Park to the south side of Canmore but it’s all gravel.

In the town of Banff the gondola goes up Sulpher Mountain not Tunnel Mountain. Very nice view of the town and area. One can also hike up and ride gondola down if you’d prefer. Some nice hikes north of town up towards Mount Norquay ski hill. Some day I’d also like to take the boat tour on Lake Minnewaka.
