McCanna, ND | I’ve had cows on stalks basically all winter on a ridge of sorts. Not hauling manure or bed pack is nice. What the cows “waste” in the hay rings is used for bedding in the field. the cows are nibbling away at the stalks at a few lbs/day still.
I don’t need to buy a manure spreader, not putting hours on the tractor/dozer, and don’t need to make time to do that chore. Cows will be in the field until a few days before fertilizer is applied.
1 bale/month with waste is what the cows are going to average this winter, think I went 1 1/2 months before i actually had to start giving hay after they went on stalks. That’s $80 in hay cost I saved plus no manure hauling. | |
