Just to play the devil's advocate here, consider the benefits of a small house. A small house forces the children to use the outdoors and the barns as the regular play areas, and they get the health benefits of such. Give them the space of a large house, and their leisure will default to indoors activities, even when the weather would allow them to be outside.
