Yes you can eat them.
I personally think they are a relatively healthy food but I only eat the ones packed in either water or olive oil. I avoid the ones with vegetable oil in the ingredient list. See threads below about vegetable/seed oils. Some think the oils are not very healthy. I prefer natural animal fats and try to avoid the vegetable oils, but that is just me.
