In 2013 we went from a 9560 to a S680 2012 with 100 hours. We also went from a 6 row corn head to a 12 row. 200 to 240 bushel corn. Loved it and still have it. At the time traded a 25 foot bean head for 30 foot. A S680 like your S780 has the power to handle a nondrapper heads slugs not feeding even. If I were you I would get the 12 row corn head first and the drapper second.

Well the main reason for a draper is cutting performance. We always have to stop cutting right before sundown because of pushing. Typically the beans will feed through for another couple of hours which some years we need. We aren’t going to be able to handle the corn off a 12 row right now is the reason for the 8. Did you find setting the 680 was comparable to setting the 9560 or better or worse?

So what makes a Deere draper less prone to pushing then say a Deere 600 series auger head?

I always thought the biggest reason for moving up to a draper was because of more even feeding of the crop into the combine. Not so much slug feeding, especially when it gets a little tough from dew.

We are 100% notill, pushing is rarely an issue with a Deere flex auger head.

We still do fall tillage usually a pass with an in-line ripper or disc ripper so our ground is pretty loose. Our biggest issue is the bean leaves and stems bringing up moisture as the sun starts to set. We don’t have contour master on our 9570 now either so when it starts to push, no amount of head pressure change will keep it from pushing on the trash. We’ve never had much luck with the 6 series auger heads either. Seems they don’t flex enough to do a good job and there’s nothing more annoying then looking across a field at night with headlights seeing a bunch of straggler beans sticking up
